Should we say ‘Web3’, ‘Web 3’ or ‘Web 3.0’? Thanks to the Google Trends scores for these keywords, we were able to identify trends and observe how they were used from one country to another. Let’s take a look at these statistics.
How are Web3-related searches evolving on Google Trends
After recently looking at Bitcoin (BTC)-related searches on Google Trends, we now turn our attention to Web3-related searches in different countries.
More specifically, we have focused our study on 3 specific terms, and we will see that the results are quite interesting:
- Web3 ;
- Web 3 ;
- Web 3.0.
First of all, here are the trends for these searches according to their Google Trends score, comparing one to the other. This is a global score, and while the ‘Web 3’ search dominates, the trends remain relatively similar in their behaviour with highly correlated highs and lows, although ‘Web 3.0’ is less volatile than the other two :
On the other hand, it becomes interesting when we change the time scale. We can see that the ‘Web3’ and ‘Web 3.0’ variants did not start to gain momentum until the end of the last bull run, in the second half of 2021. Before that, the majority of searches were concentrated on ‘Web 3’:
The popularity of Web3 by country
To complete this analysis, let’s now look at a country-by-country comparison over the last 12 months, which will show us the wide disparities between different regions of the world.
To understand the table below, there are a few things to bear in mind. Firstly, it classifies countries according to a given search term. Secondly, a column shows the percentage of that keyword in relation to the other two. For example, for the keyword “Web 3”, Japan has the best score, with a search dominance of 73%:

At least two elements stand out in the table above. Firstly, for the ‘Web 3’ search, 70% of the top 10 is made up of Latin-speaking countries, mainly Spanish. What’s more, when this keyword dominates, it does so by far: for example, the search “Web3” shows 0% in Honduras.
Secondly, the keyword “Web 3.0” remains relatively under-represented compared to the other two. Even among the countries that use it the most, the search never manages to exceed 50%.
France ranks 31st, 29th and 45th respectively for these searches, with scores of 39%, 52% and 9%.
