BitMart exchange loses $200 million
The $200 million hack was first revealed by Peckshield, a data analysis company. The official announcement described the event as a “large-scale security breach”.
Upon further investigation, Peckshield revealed a simultaneous hack of $96 million on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) and $100 million on Ethereum (ETH).
The Shiba Inu token (SHIB) tops the list of loot. The hacker took 893.8 billion SHIB tokens or about $33.4 million at the time of publication. Saitama (SAITAMA), Dogelon Mars (ELON) and Akita Inu (AKITA) tokens are also among the cryptocurrencies that were stolen from BitMart customers.
The hacker also stole $96 million worth of tokens from the BSC. The hacker managed to steal 29.4 trillion SAFEMOON or about $43.8 million.
BitMart said the funds contained on these two addresses represent only a “small percentage of the assets on Bitmart” and that all other wallets are “secure and unharmed”. The exchange is still conducting a thorough security review and all withdrawals are suspended until further notice.

Transit of funds via Tornado Cash
The attacker used the decentralized exchange (DEX) 1Inch to convert all the tokens into Ether. The ETH were then sent to the Tornado Cash blender which will make it more difficult to track. The diagram below traces the operations

Peckshield noted that it was a simple game for the pirates, one in which they “transfer, trade and wash”.
