Roblox: non-fungible tokens (NFT) soon in the famous video game?

David Baszucki, founder and CEO of Roblox, has expressed his dream of incorporating non-fungible tokens (NFT) into the popular multiplayer gaming platform. This vision could offer increased interoperability and potential participation from major companies such as Nike. Incidentally, Roblox had previously introduced a similar feature called “Limiteds”, offering products with features similar to NFTs.

Interviewed on CNBC, founder and CEO of multiplayer game Roblox David Baszucki said he “dreams” of incorporating non-fungible tokens (NFTs) into his multi-platform metaverse.

Initially asked about his company’s results, David Baszucki referred to the interoperability of Robux, Roblox’s inherent digital currency, which already enables the purchase of accessories and additional in-game content.

According to him, Robux and in-game content could be exchanged outside Roblox with the active participation of celebrities such as Elton John, who would offer an exclusive collection so that the latter’s content could be sold inside and outside the game thanks to the ownership rights granted by NFT :

“We could imagine that one day these products would be removed from the platform, as NFTs, eventually sold off the platform, and then returned to the platform. “

The CEO clarified that other companies such as Nike could also participate in this momentum, and that they would have a “key role” as well as “some control in the process. “

“I want to emphasize that we’re kind of dreaming of seeing objects and NFTs move from one platform to another.”

According to our Decrypt colleagues, Roblox counted over 70 million players who spent at least 2.5 hours playing on its platform on average during the third quarter of the year, alongside a 20% increase in the number of daily active users compared to last year.

Also, although Roblox targets a predominantly young audience, the arrival of NFTs on its platform could potentially breathe new life into this sector, which has been struggling to say the least in comparison with 2021, although it has recently been on the rise again:

Earlier this year, Roblox launched “Limiteds”, a series of products with features very similar to NFTs, which can be used in-game as accessories and then resold. And for each new sale, the original creator of a given collection receives a 10% royalty. A model reminiscent of sales on secondary markets such as OpenSea, for example
